figure drawing

Figure drawing has quietly become one of my favorite things.

It started towards the end of the pandemic, when my friend Eve invited me to a weekend class at Minerva’s Studio on Canal Street. Tucked away in a run-down building in Chinatown — with a mahjong club on one floor and a “massage parlor” on the other — it was sweaty, chaotic, and somehow perfect. I kept going until I moved to Buffalo.

Here, I found new places to draw: first at Hunt Gallery downtown, and now at Revolution Gallery. It’s a much comfier experience, but just as special.

I even kept it going on a recent trip to Paris, where I joined a session with Life Drawing Montmartre and sketched a model from the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. (You can find those drawings in my Europe ‘25 section!)

And if you're curious about my Buffalo sessions, I made a short video — it’s on Instagram.
